Svea Court of Appeal in Stockholm, Sweden, inaugurated February 16, 1614 during the reign of King Gustavus Adolphus II, celebrates this year its fourth centenary with several events throughout the year. The Olin Foundation for Legal History will contribute to this celebration by publishing an anthology with articles regarding the early history of this court, edited by Professor Mia Korpiola, Turku, "The Svea Court of Appeal in the Early Modern Period: Historical Reinterpretations and New Perspectives", Rättshistoriska studier, Vol. xx, 2014.
At the first day of this symposium the authors of this anthology will present their research. The second day the book will be followed up by talks given by eminent international legal historians, who will pick up central problems within legal historical research on the jurisdictions of the courts of appeal (appellate courts), the appellate judiciaries and the interesting position of the appellate courts decisions in relation to king/emperor etcetera.The lectures and discussions are open to the public. Preregistration necessary.
